The Knowledge Hub is open to case study submissions on projects that are helping local authorities to meet their Net Zero targets.
We’ve got a tonne of brilliant projects on our Hub but we want more! Our case studies inspire others to take action, giving other local councils a taste of what is possible in making their communities cleaner, healthier and more sustainable.
The Collaborating for Net Zero Knowledge Hub enables local authorities to share the knowledge that they have gained from delivering low-carbon projects.
As the UK progresses towards Net Zero, the Knowledge Hub will continue to develop and expand. We want to make sure that everyone striving to achieve Net Zero has access to the inspiration and insight which projects like the ones we’ve already shared provide. That means publishing more case studies that share the experiences of local authorities and their partners in implementing carbon reducing strategies that help them to achieve cleaner energy, climate justice, warmer homes or greener town planning.

Our case studies are categorised into three statuses: In progress, Completed, Evaluated.
Projects don’t have to be complete in order for case studies to be published and shared, so long as councils or local partners have some idea of the projected impact. When you submit a case study, we ask that you give us an idea of the timeline so far - when the project began, how long it’s taken to reach the stage it’s at now and what the stepping stones might be towards completion.
Knowing who’s involved and who will benefit from projects is a really important part of the case studies. Local partnerships are often key to a project’s success and widened impact; explaining who you’re working with and in what capacity will help other local authorities to think about how they go about involving other stakeholders.
How does your case study fit into the overall plan to reach Net Zero in time for your local target? These projects tend to be part of a wider programme - a piece in the climate action puzzle. We want to know more about the landscape in which they fit.
What impact will your case study project have on the local community? Will it create extra jobs? Perhaps it’ll allow for increased training opportunities or reduce air pollution. Will it free up congestion or help to reduce fuel poverty?
There’s no point in doing this kind of work if no one sees the real world impact it’s going to have. We want to see the projected figures or concrete actions that have come from case studies, whatever their status. If you’re still in the planning stage, what impact do you see the project happening in the future?
Because these case studies are about inspiring other local leaders to take action, it’s really important to share learnings and conclusions. If you’re the first to have done something, you’ll have invaluable insights into what worked, what didn’t and what might be improved upon next time.
What is the takeaway from your project? The legacy looks at what will come from the case study going forward. It might be that it’s easily replicable across different cities in the UK - or further afield. Perhaps it’s something that can be scaled up to cover a far bigger region than it already does.
